Mechanical engineering

While there is a constant need for the development of new products and growth of production extent, the time needed for the development of the new products constantly decreases. New, more efficient technologies and automation mandate new machines and products. As a result, th edemand for engineers of different profiles able to respond to the listed requirements, as well as the demand for effective schooling of engineers who will be able to develop new products, equipment and production capacity based on new technology is high.

The generally adopted premise of professional study within the EU framework represents a didactic concept of work-related learning. Since the professional study requires a close contact with practice, the study programme focuses around concretization of the taught content through seminar works, practical exercises ,laboratory work and professional visits.

The main goal and purpose of the undergraduate professional study of Mechanical engineering is implementation of theoretical and professional knowledge required for work in mechanical professions. After completion of this study programme students will master the professional and organisational processes of designing and calculating using computers.

The duration of the study is 6 semesters (3 years) for regular students and for part-time students with equal number of teaching hours. The study contains a total of 180 ECTS credits. Upon completion of the study students acquire the title Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (bacc. ing. mech.).

Having completed this study, students can continue their professional education and acquire the title Master of Mechanical Engineering (mag. ing. mech.) or transfer to the corresponding graduate university study programmes after having passed the required additional exams expressed in ECTS credits.

Learning outcomes of the study programme
  • identify and describe engineering problems
  • define basic mathematical, physical and technical principles of operation of simple mechanical components and constructs
  • analyse different assumptions, approaches, procedures and results regarding practical engineering problems
  • devise technical solutions in designing simple mechanical components, constructs, machines, devices and equipment
  • apply the acquired professional knowledge in the use of mechanical components, constructs, machines, devices and equipment
  • conduct testing of simple components in the field of mechanical engineering
  • describe principles of operation and application of simple mechanical components, constructs, machines, devices and equipment
  • plan production, protection, maintenance and supervision of technical systems and components
  • recommend solutions based on system models, simulations, measurement of relevant components and valid mechanical engineering standards including preparation of supporting documentation
  • apply programming tools for design, analysis and verification of mechanical systems
  • understand the impacts of mechanical engineering on society and the environment
  • participate in teamwork and present professional content
  • perform less demanding jobs in the area of mechanical engineering
