Scientific and Research Activities

Even though we are by definition a type of institution of higher education that conducts professional and specialist professional studies, our teachers publish in scientific publications in their respective disciplines, collaborate with national and international academic institutions and engage in scientific, research and technological projects. Our employees actively participate in exchange programs and have been involved in hosting and sending guest-lecturers and visiting professors from/to numerous partner institutions.

Scientific and Professional conferences

In collaboration with other partners we have organized two scientific and professional conferences:

> Contemporary Issues in Economy and Technology (CIET 2014) in Split, Croatia, 2014

The Conference covered focus areas in Finance & Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Trade, Mechanical Engineering and Interdisciplinary Teaching and Learning. Selected, blind reviewed, scientific and professional papers appeared in the Conference Proceedingswith the assigned ISBN978-953-7220-15-0

> Through Cooperation - towards Sustainable Development in economics in Chisinau, Moldavia, 2013

The Department has also independently organized two conferences on teaching languages in 2002 and 2003.

> International Conference on Foreign Language Teaching, Split, Croatia, 2002 and 2003.

TECHNICAL ACHIEVEMENTS

Our Department takes pride in applying existing scientific knowledge to develop more practical and improved technological achievements and solutions.

SOLAR LIFT- second-year students of Specialist professional study of Electrical Engineering: Joško Miše, Ante Kokan, Luka Desnica and Mišel Janković, under supervision of their mentor, PhD Marko Vukšić, assistant professor, have created a laboratory-scale space elevator that uses solar irradiation to move payload to arbitrary height. Climbing is performed on the cable that can be realized by use of advanced low weight and high strength materials such as carbon nanotubes. The device goes half a meter per second lifting five kilograms of payload powered only by visible light.

Besides the model make of the solar elevator, the team has created an automated remote control system. This type of SCADA system allows remote control and visualization of crucial parameters such as elevator speed, number of motor revolutions, climbing height, solar panel currents and voltages. Parameters are transferred from device in movement by use of digital wireless data transfer in real time.
